"Nonsense" is a song by Sabrina Carpenter, from her fifth album Emails I Can't Send. It was first released on July 15, 2022 as a part of the album, and later released as the album's fifth single on November 10, 2022 alongside a music video. It was written by Sabrina Carpenter, Julian Bunetta and Steph Jones.
Multiple remixes of the song were released. A sped-up version of the song was released on November 14, 2022, a holiday remix titled "A Nonsense Christmas" was released on December 7, 2022, and a remix featuring American rapper Coi Leray was released on March 23, 2023. "A Nonsense Christmas" would later be featured on Carpenter's 2023 Christmas EP Fruitcake, and was the namesake of her 2024 Netflix holiday special A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.

On July 5, 2022, Carpenter posted the Emails I Can't Send track list on social media, revealing the song's title and placement on the album.[1]
On November 4, 2022, Island Records tweeted a selection of photos, seemingly from a music video set, with the caption: "Talking Nonsense… @SabrinaAnnLynn", hinting at a music video for "Nonsense".[2] Shortly after, Carpenter also posted one of the photos from Island on her Twitter.[3] The following day, Carpenter posted a TikTok of her on the set of the video, with the caption: "3 hot new bombshells just entered the nonsense music video". She also left a comment stating: "#nonsensevideo #maybe #comingsoon #idk #tease #possible", confirming that she was filming a music video for the song.[4]
On November 10, 2022, Carpenter tweeted a teaser of the music video with the caption: "tomorrow".[5] It officially premiered at 9:20 PM EST.

Throughout Carpenter's Emails I Can't Send Tour and her opening set during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, Carpenter performed "Nonsense" with unique outros for each show.
On January 4, 2023, Carpenter performed "Nonsense" on Jimmy Kimmel Live. On September 12, 2023, she performed a mash-up of the song with "Feather" at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards preshow. She would perform this mash-up again on December 31, 2023 for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, and on Saturday Night Live on May 18, 2024.
On December 1, 2023, Carpenter performed a mash-up of "Nonsense" with its holiday remix "A Nonsense Christmas" at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball. "A Nonsense Christmas" was also performed as part of Carpenter's Netflix holiday special A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, released on December 6, 2024.

- The song marked Carpenter's second song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at #75 and peaking at #56.
- Carpenter revealed that she wrote the song while drinking champagne.[6]
- Carpenter stated that she left the outro lyrics at the end because she assumed the song would not be included on the album.[7]
- The outro lyrics were originally written for the chorus, but some were selected for the end of the song.
- Carpenter made up a unique outro for each city she performed the song at during the Emails I Can't Send Tour. She continued to improvise outro lyrics related to each show she performed at following this, including during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, before retiring the gimmick on the Short n' Sweet Tour.[8]
- The "dipshit" hat that Carpenter's male counterpart wears in the music video was available for purchase on her online store.[9]
