Background[]
On January 16, 2024, Carpenter was announced to be part of the American music festival, Coachella, on April 12 and 19, 2024.[1] After being teased on billboards on the way to Indio that read: "She's gonna make you come... to her Coachella set!",[2] Carpenter announced the release of the single "Espresso" for April 11, a day prior to her first show at the event.[3]
In March, in an interview with Cosmopolitan Magazine, Carpenter revealed that she had been working on a brand new record during the South American and Australian legs of The Eras Tour, where she served as an opening act for Taylor Swift.[4]
"I'm trying to really take this experience in [performing the songs on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour] before moving on to the next thing...but I've been working on the next thing for a minute. I'm starting to feel like I've outgrown the songs I'm singing, which is always an exciting feeling because I think that means the next chapter is right around the corner."
