Singular: Act I is the third studio album by Sabrina Carpenter. It was released on November 9, 2018 through Hollywood Records. It is the first half of her original full-length studio album Singular, the second part taking the form of her fourth studio album, Singular: Act II.
Background[]
Carpenter began writing songs for the album in 2016, soon after Evolution was released, but did not begin recording until 2017. The songs that she recorded during this period were not originally intended to be split into Act I and Act II, but rather for one album only. She began teasing the album in May 2018, just before the release of the lead single "Almost Love".
On June 2, 2018, an album trailer was released on her YouTube channel, revealing that it would be titled Singular and that it was scheduled for release in winter 2018. On June 22, 2018, during an interview on the Zach Sang Show, she revealed that "Why" and "Alien" would not appear on the album.[1]
On September 26, 2018, Carpenter posted the full version of "Alone Together" with the caption "this is not on the album. but u guys have been asking forever. and i love u. so now u have it. go be emo."[2] She had performed the song during the De-Tour in 2017, intending for it to be included on the original full album Singular, but it was ultimately cut from the final track list of both Act I and Act II.
Split into Act I and Act II[]
The songs from Act I were recorded between 2017 and 2018, while the songs from Act II were recorded between 2017 and 2019.
On October 1, 2018, Carpenter performed "Almost Love" on The Late Late Show With James Corden. During the performance, she ripped off a piece of the set wall revealing a part of the Singular: Act I album cover, and at the end of the performance, she spray painted "11/9", hinting at a release date of November 9, 2018.
On October 22, 2018, Carpenter officially announced the album, and revealed that the album would be split into two parts, with Act I being released on November 9, 2018 and Act II "coming soon". She also posted the album cover for Act I along with the track list.[3]
